Details
2015 was a year of celebration for the Pioneer Center’s 25th year of service to the citizens of Weatherford and many other surrounding areas. The Pioneer Center opened its doors on April 29th, 1990 with a Grand Opening which welcomed 1,200 guests. The Pioneer Center continues to be a well-known and established Senior Citizens Center and a Community Center for the City of Weatherford. The 12,000 square foot facility, one of the largest and finest of its kind in the State of Oklahoma, hosts 3,000 to 5,000 people each month for various activities and events. The Pioneer Center provides many activities for all ages. For our seniors, the Pioneer Center provides arts and crafts, movies, music, local speakers, games, exercise programs, health services, social events and special holiday celebrations. The seniors also take monthly day trips and have fun evenings out to local attractions, events and restaurants. Most Tuesdays we have informational speakers who come and talk with our seniors, such as the Mayor, Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Chamber Director, City Animal Control and Care Officer and many others in the local area or with the City of Weatherford. Monthly event newsletters list most events and activities held at the center. Newsletters can be picked up at the beginning of each month at the Pioneer Center office. The CADC Nutrition Program provides a noon meal for seniors Monday – Friday at a suggested donation of $3.00 for those over 60 and $7.00 for those under 60. Menus are printed in the monthly newsletter. To join us for any of the noon meals, please contact the Pioneer Center office, 580-772-1193, no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day you would like to dine. A homebound meal program is also provided from the center kitchen, and participation in this program can be done by contacting the center at 580-772-1193. The Pioneer Center is fortunate to have a brand new small 15 passenger bus with a lift that can pick up folks for the lunch-time nutrition program, Monday - Friday. In addition, the bus takes passengers shopping on Tuesday afternoons. The bus is also used for our senior trips and events from the center. Reservations are required for bus rides and a nominal fee is charged.
