Five Star Center was founded in 1976 by members of five neighborhood churches who identified a growing need to support the health and independence of seniors and adults with disabilities by providing nutritious meals and a place to gather. As a result of their collaborative efforts, the Center, then known as Five Church Older Adult Center, became a vital part of this south side community in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. Now, Five Star Center is an independent, non-sectarian 501(c)(3) organization not affiliated with any religious group or congregation. Five Star Center has been a pillar of the community by providing essential services to older adults and adults with disabilities living in St. Louis City. Our services include accessible transportation, home delivered meals, weekly lunches, recreation, socialization, and referral services. We provide these services to a client base of over 500 individuals, many of whom are low-income or under-served. In 2017 we served over 4,500 lunches in-house, delivered over 71,000 meals to home-bound clients, and provided over 9,000 rides. Five Star Center is committed to helping older adults maintain their independence by being a trusted community resource. By direct service and collaboration with other organizations in St. Louis City, we aim to provide the necessary supports and services to meet the evolving needs of aging citizens in our community.
