The PACS Aging department is made up of five programs and each one is very dependent on the other for a successful operation. The senior citizens centers are funded through The Older Americans Act, Title III, and USDA. Transportation is funded through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Title III. The Title III program is contracted through the Pennyrile Area Development District with funding from the Older Americans Act. PACS serves over 5,000 unduplicated clients through the Title III services that include all of the above listed categories. All services are free to individuals 60 years and older. Donations are accepted and are budgeted back into the area received. We are very dependent on donations in order to expand our services. The SCSEP program is a job training program and has 21 slots in seven counties of the Pennyrile. Caldwell- 4 slots, Christian- 1 slot, Crittenden- 2 Slots, Hopkins- 6 slots, Livingston- 2 slots, Lyon- 1 slot and Trigg- 5 slots. To be eligible for this program, an individual must be 55 years and older and meet 125% of the poverty guidelines. They work 20 hours per week at their assigned Host Agency. PACS pays the enrollees $7.25 per hour. These individuals train in non-profit organizations in the seven counties. PACS Aging transportation operates in conjunction with the Medicaid Transportation in many of our counties. Elderly transportation is very important and needed in all counties. Our seniors are very frail and have no one to help them with their transportation. We assist our seniors in transporting them to doctor’s appointments, drug stores, hair salons, barber shops, senior centers, grocery shopping, hospitals and many more places in the communities. We do ask for donations to help pay the expense of the gas, insurance, maintenance and drivers. Each center has handicapped vehicles to assist the seniors. The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) is a program in each senior center and in the PACS central office in Hopkinsville. The Aging Coordinators in each county are trained counselors to help seniors with problems or questions concerning their Medicare. Edith Lewis and Rachel Cook are in the Hopkinsville office to help assist individual client needs in Hopkinsville.
