Moore’s Brand Senior Citizen Center is located at 501 East Main Street. Activities at the Center include cards, domino’s, quilting, billiards, ceramics, art lessons, woodcarving and various crafts. There are also programs on nutrition as well as health checks for hearing, blood pressure, and blood sugar screenings. Legal aid representatives and speakers from other professional groups speak to our seniors. Aging Services Inc., operates a congregate meal program at the Center as well. A transportation bus owned and operated by the Moore Council on Aging (MCOA) provides rides for senior citizens from their addresses in the Moore city limits to the Center. This service also serves seniors with transportation to banks, stores, the library, doctor’s offices, and other places within the city. In 1977, a group of senior citizens, incorporated under the name of the Moore Council on Aging (MCOA), began meeting in a converted dwelling owned by the City of Moore. As the group grew in numbers, they were able to obtain the use of a larger facility owned by a private corporation. The Council on Aging began a project to raise funds for a new facility. Land was donated to the MCOA for the project, and the MCOA and the City of Moore worked together to meet qualifications for a grant. In 1993, sufficient funds had been raised for the MCOA’s portion of the project cost. Title of the property was transferred to the City, and construction begun. On February 22, 1994, the MCOA moved into its new home. Under an agreement with the City, the MCOA is the principal user of the facility, which is owned and maintained by the City of Moore. In 2013 approximately 2,250 square feet was added to the Center. The expansion included rooms for billiards, dominoes, quilting and a computer room. The expansion was partially funded the 1/4 cent sales tax approved by the voters of Moore in 2012.
