The Center had its beginnings with an informal group of senior citizens who met regularly for companionship and recreation in one of several places in downtown Buckley during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. It was through the acquisition of state funding and federal Housing and Urban Development monies administered by the Pierce County community development block grant program, the Buckley Multi-Purpose Center was built in 1979. This enabled the Buckley Senior Citizens to have an unchanging and publicly supported facility and place to meet. The group went on to attain its non-profit status in November of 1990.
