In addition to a lunch, participants enjoy the opportunity to socialize and meet new friends, experience educational opportunities, participate in wellness programs, and enjoy interesting and fun activities. Door-to-door transportation can be provided in most cases. Suggested donations are collected to help cover the costs of the meals. Senior centers also conduct fundraising programs throughout the year to generate revenue for a wide variety of socialization and recreational activities, including trips. Some of the senior center activities include participation in the Library of Congress (Culpeper) movie days, Older Americans’ Month service projects, games, exercise, music, disease prevention programs, and regional holiday luncheons. Extraordinary volunteer and community support, plus the hard work and dedication of the senior center supervisors, make all of this possible.
