SLCo Aging & Adult Services provides the operating staff. The numerous activities supported by this center are staffed by countless volunteers. The first planned program of recreation for Salt Lake County Aging was initiated on October 11, 1955, at an open house in Salt Lake City Elk’s Boys and Girls Club. The original group of thirty seniors grew to seventy five. In June of 1956, Salt Lake City Commissioner, L.C. Romney, turned over the building at the Victory Tennis Club, then called the Jaycee Boys and Girls Club at 245 South 1000 East in Salt Lake City, for the exclusive use of older citizens. Realizing the need for a larger facility, the Salt Lake Community Welfare Council, the Council on Aging, the Salt Lake County Commission and the Salt Lake City Parks Department worked together to make possible the opening of the now present Tenth East Senior Center on July 11, 1963.
