Founded in 1973. Dorchester is known as a senior center with one of the most diverse memberships in New York City. Approximately 100 members attend daily to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared on-site in Dorchester's kosher kitchen. Members participate in recreational, educational and health promotion activities such as discussions, aerobics, Zumba, choral groups, yoga, knitting & crocheting, English language classes, trivia, bingo, mahjong, walking club and health workshops on nutrition & other topics. In addition, there are trips, parties and entertainment. Dorchester also provides information and referral assistance on senior benefits and programs. Dorchester's singing groups, "The Singing Swingers" and Chorus, that include both sighted and visually impaired members, perform at assisted living facilities and at other senior centers.
