It is the key to a life of aging in place with quality and dignity. Of regaining control of the timing and route for routine outings to the grocery store or doctor. Of the joy of seeing friends and family whenever the mood strikes. In fact, lack of access to transportation can start a downward spiral of isolation that impacts both physical and mental health. With this in mind, the Greater Homewood Community Corporation founded AIM in 1973. The only independent, non-profit transportation program in North Baltimore, AIM is also known as Baltimore's "senior center without walls" - offering programs and referrals to at-risk older adults across the city. Today, with a fleet of handicapped-accessible vans, AIM serves nearly 60 percent of Baltimore City. AIM drivers are background-checked, must pass a DOT physical, and are CPR and first aid certified. They are trained in providing senior-friendly transportation. AIM provides group trips for shopping and events, as well as individual rides by request.
