Comment: I feel compelled to share my experience about the Waters Edge.When my mom had to go into rehab from the hospital I did research. This Facility was in Port Jefferson which was perfect for my Dad and I to visit my mom everyday, But when I read up on it,I said No Way. But other places didn't have good ratings either.And that is why I feel I need to give my input, Because Waters Edge was the place my mom went. On the first morning I went to visit around 7:00, I was very much on the defense because of the ratings so when I saw my mom who shouldn't be walking trying to get out of bed to go to the bathroom I flipped out.I went to the nursing station and got nurse Emily who followed me right away and got my mom into a wheel chair and calmed me down, Next thing I know Russ the P.T and Rivka the O.T came in to evaluate my mom.After breakfast Rachel and Maria the activity staff came in to let us know what they have to offer and to see what my mom would be interested in. That evening Russ the P.T called my home to learn about my mom from us and not just what he read on a chart.I thought that was such great personal care. Being laid up so long in the hospital made my mom's voice diminish. One day with the speech therapist Stephanie, I was getting calls from my out of state sisters saying that they were able to have a conversation with my mom. Now being out of rehab she is back walking with her walker and so happy that even walking pigeon toed is gone. Thank you Russ and Warren her Physical therapists. And thank you putay her O.T you were all so helpful and encouraging and nice. Understand that this facility is a rehab/nursing facility So yes it is a little depressing seeing people who are a little less fortunate then the ones that are just spending time for rehab.But that just makes us think "there but by the grace of God go I" But the reason you see this is because the facility would not leave people in beds. They get them up, clothed and have them sit in their wheel chairs in hallway in front of nursing station or in dining room so they can be part of activity. Because my mom was there Christmas time she attended a holiday party with my dad. It was a great turn out.They had food, beverage and a singer. It was great. The staff was very friendly always passing you saying hi. In the morning you walk into cheerful Alecia at the front desk who made you feel like a friend. And at night you would have Fran always with a smile on her face wishing us a safe trip home. They also had other front desk staff that were also so welcoming. I felt very comfortable with my moms aid Courtney who was always moving around with a smile on her face. I do feel that a smile has healing power. The nurse Kristen who would come around to give medication was very nice and caring and would take time for conversation. Even the food delivery staff member Pierre would make my mom feel so good calling her by name and telling her she looked beautiful. My mom was blessed with Two wonderful roommates, first Marge then Karen. I do believe they put thought into the room sharing. As with any business you do have some staff that are not as nice and compassionate. Thank God this was very limited. I did go to the Administrator David Roll when I encountered this.Mr. Roll is new to this facility I find him to be extremely compassionate.After talking with him he was in my moms room with nursing supervisor and problem solved.David Roll wants to know anything he could do to make your experience a good one, and any problem he will address promptly. I do believe with him in charge the feed back of Waters Edge will be positive. You will also see Eddie floating around with a smile on his face asking if he can help in anyway,he calls himself the concierge. When it was getting close for my mom to come home we were called down for a meeting with the social workers Kelsey and Palace. They made us so relaxed and I must say they made the meeting fun. I was so impressed that on the way out I had to tell Kelsey that she was very good at what she did. And at the End the whole team came together to help us deal with the insurance company.David Roll, Kelsey Adams, Palace and the nursing Supervisor.Thank you all. And guess what? The best Kudos was that my mom cried when David and Kelsey and Palace came into the lobby to say goodbye and she said she would miss the place. I know this was long but I think my problem was when we started out on this journey we believed in what we read before giving them a chance.
